Blogging Mistakes you’re Making & How To Fix Them

Hey there! It’s Anu from the DuoThrivers team.

Anku and I started blogging back in 2017, and as newbies, we made a ton of mistakes. But that was part of the journey, and we learned a lot along the way.

In this post, I’ve listed 27 blogging mistakes you might be making and ones you really can’t afford to ignore.

I’ll share my own experiences along with solutions, so if you ever find yourself making the same mistake over and over, you’ll know exactly how to fix it.

If you’re ready to keep reading, you’re already on the path to becoming a better blogger. Many people avoid this because they’re afraid of facing the harsh truth about how much improvement they might need.

So if you’re here, my friend – you’re already a winner!

7 Blogging Mistakes you can’t Afford to Make

1. Inconsistent posting schedule

This is one of the most common mistakes that almost all new bloggers make. And I can’t express how bad I feel when I see someone repeating the same mistake I made years ago.

I remember when my blog wasn’t getting any traction, I found it really hard to stay motivated to keep writing. But you have to find your own motivation and when that runs out, discipline has to take over.

The biggest motivation in blogging comes from knowing people are actually reading your posts. If you’re not aware of the Ways to get Blog Traffic, it will be hard to keep posting regularly.

But, if you are just starting and have confidence on your KW Research – you need to keep publishing content consistently and promote – people will start noticing!

2. Not diversifying traffic source

Before Google’s infamous HCU, bloggers were heavily dependent on Google Search for traffic to their sites. But things changed after the update went live in late 2023.

As bloggers, Anku and I knew we had to diversify our traffic sources. And as you may already know, we started focusing more on Pinterest.

Earlier, Pinterest was bringing in around 20% of our total traffic. Now, it’s more than 70%. I recently shared a Free Pinterest Strategy Guide to get 30K visitors, do check it out!

Pinterest has always been part of our traffic strategy. We’ve always liked the quality of readers it brings to our websites, but after HCU, we doubled down on our Pinterest strategy.

Check out our detailed guide – Pinterest SEO Strategy 2025.

3. Lack of clear niche or focus

If you don’t have a clear niche in mind, you’re losing out on loyal readers, better monetization opportunities, and SEO benefits.

It’s fine to experiment with niches when you first start, because the topic you love writing about may not always have a large audience. But if your blog still doesn’t have a clear niche after 5 to 6 months, that’s a problem.

The solution is to go back to the drawing board, finalize your niche, and focus on it. You can check our post – Best Niches to Start a Blog – for ideas.

4. Neglecting SEO best practices

If you’re not focusing on SEO and are publishing content without following the best SEO practices, you’re playing nothing less than a gamble. Search engines won’t give your blog any traction if it isn’t optimized.

If you haven’t started working on SEO yet, you need to focus on three major aspects:

  1. On-Page SEO
  2. Technical SEO
  3. Off-Page SEO

5. Writing thin or unoriginal content

Writing in detail on a topic is not an easy task. Even if you ask an expert to write a blog on a specific subject, they might still find it challenging.

Before writing the blog, you need to research the topic thoroughly. This also includes checking other blogs for content and structure inspiration.

But that does not mean copying the content in any way.

Copying someone else’s work or writing shallow, non-detailed content will only make it harder for you to rank on search engines.

6. Failing to engage with readers or respond to comments

We’ve mentioned before that a single pageview on your blog is more than just a pageview – it’s a potential reader-customer-buyer, and you should treat them that way.

Along with writing high-quality, no-BS content, you should do your best to engage them through the comments section. If you have a single blog and plenty of time, focus on building a long-term relationship with your readers.

7. Poor grammar and spelling

It’s really important to write a blog free from grammatical and spelling errors. I’m not saying it has to read like it came straight out of an Oxford dictionary, but spelling mistakes can turn readers away.

You have to understand that in this age of short videos and short attention spans, if someone is reading your blog, it means they’re serious readers and potential long-term followers. If errors in your content turn them off, you’re losing a valuable reader.

Always proofread your content before publishing. Tools like Grammarly and Chatgpt can help make your content look much better.

And guys, Chatgpt can do more than that. You can use it to –

  1. Generate Blog Post Ideas
  2. Create Blog Post Outlines
  3. Research Keywords
  4. Create a Content Calendar
  5. Improve On-Page SEO
